The Loyola House of Studies (LHS), San Jose Seminary, and the Loyola School of Theology (LST) community, together with the Jesuits, gathered at the Sacred Heart Novitiate Jesuit Cemetery for a Remembrance Liturgy and Prayer Service as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of LHS and LST. The liturgy honored our beloved departed, including former rectors, presidents, and faculty members of LHS and LST, as well as all the faithful departed who have been part of our community’s story.
The solemn celebration was presided over by Fr. Peter Pojol, SJ, with Fr. Bill Abbott, SJ delivering the homily. Fr. Abbott, one of the first students of LST when it opened its doors in 1965, offered heartfelt reflections filled with gratitude and memory, recalling the pioneering spirit of the school’s early years and the Jesuits and formators whose dedication helped lay its foundations.
After the liturgy, members of the community offered prayers at the graves of the departed Jesuits, culminating in a wreath-laying ceremony as a gesture of remembrance, respect, and thanksgiving.
The gathering, held within the context of the 60th anniversary celebration, was a moment of grace and gratitude, a time to remember those who built and nurtured the LHS-LST community, and to reaffirm the enduring communion that continues to unite all who share in its mission of faith and learning.
